Its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/ZIP_Code\"><u>ZIP Code<\/u><\/a>\u00a0is 18933.<\/p><p>The village was settled by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/George_Wall_(1743%E2%80%931804)\"><u>Colonel George Wall<\/u><\/a>, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/American_Revolutionary_War\"><u>Revolutionary War<\/u><\/a>\u00a0officer and Bucks County sheriff. He acquired 15 acres of land in 1775 and established two saw mills, a general store, and a school for surveyors. As such, it was originally named\u00a0<em><i>Wall&#8217;s Saw Mills<\/i><\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em><i>Walls Landing<\/i><\/em>.<a href=\"#cite_note-2\"><sup>[<\/sup><u><sup>2<\/sup><\/u><sup>]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0The mills changed hands frequently over the next century and were ultimately abandoned in the late 1800s.<\/p><p>The Black Bass Hotel was built in the early 1740s. It had many names over the years including Wall&#8217;s Tavern, The Lumberville Hotel, Temple Bar, and The Rising Sun. It fell into decline in the late 19th century, until it was purchased in 1949 by Herbert (Herbie) Ward. He revived the business and ran it until his death 54 years later.<a href=\"#cite_note-3\"><sup>[<\/sup><u><sup>3<\/sup><\/u><sup>]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0The property was purchased by Jack Thompson, owner of the Thompson auto dealerships in Doylestown, in 2008 and underwent a major refurbishment in 2009. Thompson died in December 2020. His family continues to operate the inn and restaurant.<a href=\"#cite_note-4\"><sup>[<\/sup><u><sup>4<\/sup><\/u><sup>]<\/sup><\/a><\/p><p>In 1835,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lumberville-Raven_Rock_Bridge\"><u>a covered bridge<\/u><\/a>\u00a0was built across the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Delaware_River\"><u>Delaware River<\/u><\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Raven_Rock,_New_Jersey\"><u>Raven Rock, New Jersey<\/u><\/a>. The river is approximately 800 feet wide at this point. One span of it was carried away in the flood of 1903. That section of the bridge was rebuilt as a steel span. The bridge was used until 1946. In 1949, a new bridge was built on the piers of the original, but it was built only for foot traffic so that the people of Lumberville could have access to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pennsylvania_Railroad\"><u>Pennsylvania Railroad<\/u><\/a>\u00a0commuter passenger service in Raven Rock. The rail service was discontinued in 1952.<\/p><p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pennsylvania_Canal_(Delaware_Division)\"><u>Delaware Division of the Pennsylvania Canal<\/u><\/a>\u00a0runs along the river between Lumberville and the river. Lumberville was the location of Lock #12, a set of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lock_(water_transport)\"><u>locks<\/u><\/a>\u00a0to raise and lower the barges that travelled between\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Easton,_Pennsylvania\"><u>Easton<\/u><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bristol,_Pennsylvania\"><u>Bristol, Pennsylvania<\/u><\/a>.
